I've finally managed to give linocut a go. It's fiddly but very rewarding (managed to slice into my fingertip doing it - still, practise makes perfect). I took inspiration from the beach hut painting I did (see previous blog post). Definitely doing another as soon as I get the chance.

I finally finished the Stars & Stripes after trying out the Union Jack (which sold btw). I really enjoy collage although the Star Spangled Banner is a lot more complicated than the Union Jack to assemble or paint - 50 stars and 13 stripes. (You can't see the top stripe - it's disappeared above the photo, but it's just about there).
So here it is:

Here is the first of hopefully many collages. The Union Jack is really popular as a decorative art piece for the home, be it cushions, canvases, rugs, throws etc. They're featuring in many different colour ways, straying from the usual red, white and blue.
Here I've combined acrylics, acrylic inks and lace trim on water colour paper primed with gesso. It's inspired by heraldic tapestry/embroidery, textile artifacts encased in glass frames and vintage, home decor so popular in our times.
I'm planning on doing a star spangled banner next.... looking forward to embarking on that!
Sorry, this art work has since sold.
